“A fence could be built around the building of the General Directorate of Prisons to secure the building and the caravanserai could be vacated,” he continued.

“I will consult with President Seyyed Ibrahim Ra’isi, President and related ministers to resolve this issue,” said the Minister of Heritage, Culture, Tourism and Handicrafts.

“The liberation of the caravanserai in the center of Semnan is a popular demand and its release from the walls is encouraging for the citizens,” said Engineer Zarghami.

Shah Abbasi Caravanserai located in Saadi Square in the center of Semnan was once one of the properties of the country’s prisons organization and was used as Semnan Prison.

Semnan prison was moved out of the city last year, and on the second day of February 1999, Ayatollah Ra’isi, the then head of the judiciary, during a visit to Semnan province, ordered the release of the inn and its transfer to the Semnan municipality.

The historical caravanserai of Semnan is located in the city of Semnan as one of the 999 caravanserais built during the reign of Shah Abbas Safavid and is 400 years old, which was nationally registered in 1352.
