He added: “The international community has a serious political and moral responsibility to address this dire situation.”
Ershadi added that the UN Under-Secretary-General’s visit to Syria to obtain first-hand information and a real assessment of the humanitarian situation in Syria was a positive step and that he was satisfied with his talks with Syrian officials and subsequent actions, including the first humanitarian operation in the northwest. Ershadi continued: “More efforts should be made to ensure that the Syrians no longer need humanitarian aid.”
He stressed: “The final solution, of course, is to end the conflict, the complete withdrawal of all uninvited foreign forces, defeat the terrorists and guarantee the territorial integrity, unity and political independence of Syria.”
The Iranian ambassador and deputy representative to the United Nations expressed hope that the recent positive developments as a result of the coordination and cooperation of the Syrian government and humanitarian organizations would lead to more results and turn confrontation-based approaches into cooperation.
